The philosophy behind making every feature free — and how we sustain it.

Why ccount is Free Forever

Expense splitting is a utility. Like a calculator or a notes app, it should just work — and it shouldn't cost you money to use it properly.

The problem with "freemium" expense apps

Most expense splitting apps follow a pattern: give you the basics for free, then lock the useful stuff behind a paywall. Want to split by percentage? Pay up. Need more than one currency? Premium. Want reports? Subscribe.

We think that's backwards.

Our approach

Every feature in ccount is free. All of them. Today and forever. Multi-currency, budgets, reports, financial units, SmartSettle, recurring expenses — everything.

So how does this work financially?

Three small banner ads served by Google AdMob. That's it. They sit at the bottom of three screens and don't interrupt your workflow. No pop-ups. No video ads. No "watch an ad to unlock" gates.

If even those small banners bother you, remove them for $0.99/month or $6.99/year.

But honestly? There is no business model. We all have real jobs — we just like to build small things we actually care about. The ads cover the server costs so we don't have to think about it. It might buy us a lunch, but it won't buy us a car.

What about the future?

We might add premium features someday — things like AI-powered insights or advanced integrations. But nothing that's currently free will ever be locked behind a paywall. That's a promise.

The bottom line

We built ccount because we needed it. We keep it free because we believe everyone should have access to good tools. It's that simple.
